Interpreting Variety Tables

New crop varieties and variety tables will soon be released and determining which ones are significant to a specific operation is key to achieving success. Harry Brook, crop specialist at the Ag-Info Centre says it’s more than just picking the highest yielding variety, adding the variety tables should be seen as a tool in the decision-making process.

Changes to the Beef InfoXchange System, BIXS

The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) announced it is partnering with ViewTrak Technologies, a technology and traceability company based in Edmonton, to enhance and expand the Beef InfoXchange System, or BIXS. Under the partnership, a new privately-held company will take ownership of BIXS, with the CCA and ViewTrak as initial shareholders. Hubert Lau, executive vice-president of ViewTrak, says there are four specific outcomes of this partnership.

Commercial Vegetable Production on the Prairies is a new, comprehensive, resource manual and reference tool for new and experienced vegetable growers of all scales of production,” says Robert Spencer, commercial horticulture specialist, Alberta Ag-Info Centre, Stettler. “The book represents close to five years of work and contains contributions from experts across the Prairies.”

Alberta Participates in India’s Agro Tech Show

Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development (ARD) recently joined the Western Canada Showcase trade mission to Agro Tech, India’s premier agribusiness show. Twelve companies from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba presented exhibits in the Western Canada pavilion. Alberta’s companies represented various sectors, including swine genetics, canola oil, grains and pulses and soil enrichment.
