Alberta Weed Spotter iPhone App launched!

“Alberta Weed Spotter” app that was developed in partnership with the Athabasca University and co-funded by the Province of Alberta and the City of Edmonton.

This free app features all 75 weed species currently regulated in the Alberta Weed Control Act, as well as look a likes, and has two main purposes.
*  First, to support educating Albertans about regulated weeds in Alberta. The app has an easy-to-use plant identification section that allows users to identify all regulated species.
*   Second, to help weed managers across the province to improve strategic weed management decisions. This app utilizes the concept of Citizens Science and asks Albertans to report regulated weeds. Weed mangers are especially interested in finding new infestations as early as possible.

Thanks to the groups that helped develop the app: Alberta Invasive Species Council, Alberta Native Plant Council, Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development , Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation, Athabasca University, City of Edmonton’s Office of Biodiversity, City of St. Albert, Edmonton Native Plant Group (ENG), and all the Master Naturalists that were involved in the project.
