Late Blight Management

An Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) specialist says that Late blight (LB) of potato and tomato can develop rapidly once it gains a toe-hold in a planting. Rob Spencer, commercial horticulture specialist at AF says that the priority for late blight management should centre on efforts to reduce the introduction of the disease into plantings, either by avoiding overwinter survival or by monitoring for infected plant materials that might be brought in from other areas.

Brazilian Buyer Coming to Alberta

Assobase, a non-profit agricultural association from the state of Mato Grosso in Brazil, is coming to Alberta to meet with agricultural businesses and suppliers. They will be in Calgary on June 22-23, 2015, and are interested in meeting suppliers.

Options to Stretch Forage Supplies

The cool dry conditions across most of the province have slowed forage growth in pastures and hay fields. If it stays dry, Barry Yaremcio, beef and forage specialist at the Ag-Info Centre, says the amount of growth will be limited and it is possible that pastures will run out much earlier than normal.
