Upgrade On-Farm Skills & Knowledge December 11!

Wednesday, December 4, 2024

Upgrade your on-farm skills with experts from around the world, Dec. 11!

The Global Crop Production Virtual Conference is your chance to connect with agriculture leaders and researchers to relearn skills with a new perspective and claim 2 Pesticide Applicator credits.

Join us from 9:00am – 4:00pm on December 11 to hear new insight on universal problems like stopping new herbicide-resistant weeds from overtaking your farm, the important metrics to track for fantastic soil health, and how to build resilience to extreme weather in your fields!

Our line-up of six speakers offer farmers, agronomists, and researchers alike the opportunity to access a wealth of knowledge to take into the new year and 2025 season. You can connect to the Global Crop Production Virtual Conference from anywhere – whether you’re snowed in at home, bundled up at the office, or sunbathing beachside on vacation! All you need is an internet connection to attend.

Read about of the speakers ready to share their expertise with you:

Dr. Roberto Busi - Weed Resistance Innovation is Knock-Knocking

Learn herbicide efficacy stewardship and the cost-effective management systems that give Australian farmers and agronomists an edge in the unceasing battle of resistant weeds. Dr. Roberto Busi shares insight from his study to protect grain crop yields in mechanized no-till systems through the basis of Australia’s fundamental principle of managing glyphosate resistance – the “double-knock” system. He will explore how to identify early signs of resistance and the information necessary to make a science-based choice and subsequently deploy herbicide mixtures to overcome weed resistance.

Dr. Busi leads the herbicide resistance testing service at University of Western Australia and actively engages in extension to connect with growers and agronomists in-person and on social media. He investigates the rapid evolution of herbicide resistance in key crop weeds and resistance management by novel uses of existing chemistry. His research aims to characterize new cases of resistance, assess risk of resistance to new herbicides, and develop herbicide-based weed management systems.

Dr. Harold Van Es - Benefits of Soil Health Assessment and Interpretation

“What’s Measured Gets Done” was the motivation to develop a framework for soil health assessment, interpretation, and management. Dr. Van Es delivers a look into the state-of-the-art soil health laboratory at Cornell University and the large soil health database used to gain critical insight into key aspects and practices that impact soil health. He will share the benchmark metrics developed by his team to interpret soil health measurements, how land use and cropping systems affect soils, and the management practices you can use to upkeep soil health.

Dr. Harold Van Es is a Professor of Soil Science and served as Chair of the Soil and Crop Sciences Department and President of the Soil Science Society of America. He leads the Cornell Soil Health Initiative, developed the Comprehensive Assessment of Soil Health (CASH) framework, and co-authored the influential book Building Soils for Better Crops. He is the lead developer of digital technology for crop nitrogen management and spatially balanced designs for field experiments. He also teaches courses on Soil and Crop Management and Impact Learning.

Chris Taylor - A UK Perspective: Building Resilience into Farm Business

Chris brings wisdom and insight from his journey as a Nuffield Scholar. His study evaluated how to reach NetZero production whilst maintaining productivity. He visited farms and research facilities across the world and is excited to share the perspective he gained on building resilient farm businesses in consideration to extreme weather events and challenges posed to UK arable farming.

Chris is an agronomist based in the United Kingdom and member of the Association of Independent Crop Consultants (AICC) and the BASIS register of environmental advisors, offering expertise around holistic landscape management. With more than a decade of experience, Chris provides a unique perspective and deep understanding of how farm businesses operate and credibility when advising farmers and landowners on regenerative agriculture.
